"Heavenly experience at Merriweather Post Pavilion"

I was dismayed to see that the only review of Merriweather Post Music Pavilion was of a disappointing experience. My experience was just the opposite. As a young couple in love, my girl and I went there on a sunny summer evening around 1969. It was a performance by Indian masters Ravi Shankar, Alla Rakha and their band playing classical music (Indian ragas et al). Each composition which tells a story was introduced by Shankar to familiarize the Western audience with the framing & structure of this type of music - making us feel even more comfortable. Everything felt perfect (although having to drive & park a car with thousands of others was, typically, discomforting). But the theater had magic in store - just as the raga reached a movement in which its story turned to a sad point in a lovers' relationship, and as the setting sun fell lower in the western sky, a thunderstorm appeared suddenly - as if out of nowhere. The piece seemed in absolute synchrony as the storm darkened the sky, raindrops fell and then quickly exploded into lightning, thunder and whirling winds! The music simultaneously rose in speed and intensity - still beautifully audible and the musicians, protected by the bandshell, played on undiminished. Then the storm stopped & began to move allowing new slanting rays of golden sunshine through the pavilion's surrounding woodlands into the now wetted vapors of the climaxed ending of the music. I can't imagine a better place to attend a concert.
