A perennial leader in Towson's dining scene, Cafe Troia uses quality ingredients to craft delectable pastas and serious food like osso buco alla Milanese and herb-encrusted lamb chops and serves them in an impeccable white-tablecloth atmosphere. --Richard Gorelick
When you want an authentic Italian meal, is your first thought Little Italy in Baltimore? Yes, I love Little Italy, but my first thought is Cafe Troia in Towson. Cafe Troia is my favorite local Italian restaurant. It is located at 31 Allegheny Avenue in the heart of Towson. Please click on this link to view their site. Their phone number is 410-377-0133. Parking and valet parking are available.
The Troia family, from Naples, opened Cafe Troia in 1986. Their chicken, beef and lamb are naturally and humanely raised without hormones or antibiotics. They also feature fresh clams, shrimp, calamari and fish. They purchase local produce and vegetables, during the summer months, at the Farmer’s Market on Allegheny Avenue.
Happy hour is Monday to Friday until 7:00 in the bar and veranda. You may also enjoy outdoor, secluded dining into the autumn months.
Cafe Troia offers regional wine dinners. They create a menu for food and wine from one of the 20 regions in Italy. The dinner is offered at a set price. It is a great way to enjoy a variety of food and wine, and explore the different regions.
My husband and I frequent Cafe Troia. If we do not dine in the restaurant, we eat in their, elegant and warm, cherry-wood bar. It is a beautiful place to relax. Brian, the friendly bartender, entertains us with his stories. It is rare that we visit Cafe Troia and do not know someone. The customers are friendly, and the staff always makes us feel welcome.
Stefano, our favorite waiter, helps us select a great bottle of wine to accompany our meal. One of our wine selections is Nebbiolo, Ceretto Barolo Zoncherea. It is from the Piedmont region in Italy. It has a deep ruby color, smooth texture and a wonderful bouquet.
We enjoy many dishes at Troia. I love a Caesar salad that crunches because it is very fresh. Cafe Troia has a great Caesar salad. It crunches and is tossed with a flavorful Caesar dressing. We often split the Caesar and get the anchovies on the side.
Grilled eggplant accompanied by whipped goat cheese is one of my favorite appetizers. The goat cheese enhances the eggplant's pungent grilled flavor. They occasionally serve a beet salad with goat cheese and apple slices in a lemon dressing. When it is available, I order the beet salad.
One of my favorite entrees, Branzino , a Northern Italian sea bass, is one of their specials. It is served many ways: in parchment paper, pistachio encrusted or with tomatoes, capers and olives. You can't go wrong with any of these preparations.
I also enjoy the spinach and ricotta filled ravioli with salmon, shallots, dill and cream. The smooth and creamy sauce complements the spinach ravioli and salmon. It melts in your mouth!
Their Creme Brulee is excellent. The custard is sweet and creamy with a crispy-caramel top. It is the perfect finale to a delicious meal.
If you want to celebrate an event or just prefer a healthy mouthwatering meal, you need to try Cafe Troia. See you there!
