The Unfinished Symphonies

BSO music director Marin Alsop conducts the first movement from Gustav Mahler's unfinished Symphony No. 10, along with one of Mahler’s controversial re-orchestrations of a Beethoven work. For good measure, rarely heard songs by Mahler’s wife, Alma, will be on the program. Another rarity rounds out this imaginative program -- a realization of the first movement of Beethoven’s unfinished Tenth Symphony, which English musicologist Barry Cooper pieced together from fragments in the 1980s. --Tim Smith
