A staple in Columbia for decades, Toby's second area location is in the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Canton. Feast on a four-course buffet while watching a production in a state-of-the-art performance space with a live orchestra.
I have been an avid playgoer to Toby's Dinner Theaters (both) for several years now, and most recently I have started to take my granddaughter and grandson (7 and 5 years old, respectively) for the past 2 years. The plays are ones which I know they are familiar with and absolutely LOVE and are appropriate for children their ages.
I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the current production of Grease, because there were blatant sexual innuendos, sexual dialogue, and accompanying sexual gestures, which all made me very uncomfortable to have brought them to the play. The movie, Grease, had very mild, infrequent sexual references, and therefore, my expectations were such that I thought this production would be similar. NOT SO!!! And, to make matters worse, Toby's had NEVER advertised that patrons should be aware of the impropriety of taking children to the production. I ordered these tickets as part of my season's ticket subscription on January 10 of this year, and was NEVER TOLD that it is NOT recommended for children. AND, in their advertising brochures, nothing is ever said about this, either,. Unfortunately, the day we went, Suday, July 15, had MANY children in the audience, and I only wonder what other parents thought of this version of Grease. The play would have been enjoyable to the adults in our party if the children had not been there.
The actors and actresses, as usual, however, were all WONDERFUL, so this negative review has nothing to do with their level of expertise. The acting was great!!!
PLEASE DO NOT BRING CHILDREN TO THIS PRODUCTION OF GREASE, OR YOU WILL HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO TO THEM.
